Technology Process: Comprehensive Protection

Download CyberDefender

Keeping your house secure by just locking the doors doesn't make sense if you don't also lock your windows, and secure your doggie door. Likewise CyberDefender's universal threat management platform provides more than just a single solution to a single class of security problem. We address all of the types of attacks your computer is likely to experience:

  • Adware
  • Hijacking
  • Spyware
  • Hacking
  • Key Loggers
  • Malware
  • Viruses
  • Trojan Horses
  • Phishing
  • Rogues

You shouldn't have to think about what all of these things are and whether you are protected from all of them. That's our job.

Finding Problems Fast

There are endless ways that hackers have tried to fool your computer into doing things that you don't want it to. CyberDefender's approach to solving this problem relies on two basic strategies. One is having the most comprehensive sources for information about the latest kinds of attacks being attempted across the Internet. We have three approaches to getting the best information possible about live threats in the wild. One is that we are constantly searching the Internet for new threats. Our automated "robots" visit huge numbers of sites each day and search them for questionable contents. Another is that we enlist the computers of all of our customers to watch for suspicious applications, so rather than just a few computers that we own searching for trouble, we have hundreds of thousands of them. This means that we find more threats faster than those exclusively using older more centralized approaches. Third, we cooperate with several other companies that have their own mechanisms for discovering threats and incorporate any additional threats they discover in our lists too. This provides the most comprehensive catalog of live threats possible.

Getting The Word Out Quickly

Once we have discovered what programs and websites have suspicious software on them we have a complex and difficult job to do. We have to identify these threats, categorize them, develop instructions on how to identify them on your computer and to remove them and deliver a copy of that data to your computer as quickly as possible.

The traditional approach of having a single server (or a small number of them) hand out the updates to huge numbers of computers is a slow process and it means significant delays in getting the information about new threats and how to eliminate them.

CyberDefender neatly avoids this problem by using its parent pending peer to peer networking technology to distribute updates. This means that rather than just one server handing out copies of the software, hundreds of thousands of computers in our network deliver the update almost immediately to everyone. Getting the update days earlier means more protection against threats during a longer portion of their lifecycle.

The Problem With Traditional Internet Security Software Broadcasting Methods

The Problem With Traditional Internet Security Software Broadcasting Methods Conventional Internet security software systems broadcast updates to each protected computer from a central server. There are serious drawbacks to this method:

1. Instead of updating in real time, they collect the information into batches that must be distributed days apart. This leaves your computer unprotected from those threats during the intervening time.

2. Because they are a single point of distribution, broadcasting servers are more vulnerable to "flooding" attacks that prevent your computer from getting information about the latest threats.

3. Network attacks can block a your access to the broadcast server, disabling its ability to download an update for the threat.
